THE "KEEPER-OF-THE-BOX"

Every family has someone that has the big, dusty boxes of old family movies and photos that no one has seen for decades.

If you are The-Keeper-Of-The-Box, and you are ready to jump in on this project, then THIS page is for you!

If you are not The-Keeper-Of-The-Box, then you may want to make arrangements with The Keeper so that your irreplaceable family movies and photos get properly digitized and do not get lost forever if something happens to The Keeper.

Once your family movies and photos are digitized, they can be shared with other family members and will be preserved for future generations.

Photomyne is the App for scanning photos, letters and photo albums onsite - without having to risk taking them to a service bureau for scanning.

Scanning photos and digitizing your old home movies is a service that YesVideo has offered for over 24-years.   YesVideo was the Service Provider for Costco before Costco discontinued their Photo Center.   YesVideo is also the Service Provider for Walmart, Sam's Club, CVS and others - you can order direct from YesVideo.

Read on for a quick outline, along with links, to the services you can get through YesVideo.

There will be services that YesVideo does not offer and we included links for some of those as well.

FORMATS

VHS, S-VHS, Betamax, VHS-C, S-VHS-C, Video8, Hi-8, Digital8, DV, DVCAM, MiniDV, DVC.

Yes, this is really, really nice - you can simply send the original tapes - the tapes you used in your camcorders when you first made the home movies back in the 1980's and 90's.

I've got a box of them that I will be sending in - the camcorder is long-gone and I have no idea what is on half of the tapes.   It will be very exciting to see what memories come back!

PRICING

$28.99 for the first 2-hours, plus $28.99 for each additional 2-hours gets yous videos digitized and stored on a USB.

I am not sure what they charge if the tape you send them is blank, or only has a few minutes of video.   You may want to clarify this with them before ordering.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Continuous play of the footage from your videotapes

  • USB includes MP4 video files of your digitally transferred footage

  • Repair of damaged videotape cases and ribbon

  • A Digital Copy in MemoryCloud for Download and Copies

DIGITIZING YOUR OLD HOME MOVIES ON FILM

PRICING

$28.99 for the first 100-feet of film, plus $0.25 for each additional foot gets your movies digitized and sent to you on a USB.

I believe they combine numerous reels of film by splicing them together and then digitizing them.   You may want to clarify this with them before ordering - their website is not 100% clear on this.

3-inch reels = 50-feet of film  =  about 4-minutes of video

4-inch reels = 100-feet of film  =  about 8-minutes of video

5-inch reels = 200-feet of film  =  about 16-minutes of video

6-inch reels = 300-feet of film  =  about 24-minutes of video

Costco - How It Works.jpg

HOW IT WORKS

Click HERE (or the photo above) for more info

The ordering process is pretty easy - it is done online.  Fill out the forms and pay via credit card.   You will print out a shipping label to put on your box.   Shipping costs are $11.99 each way.   Their website is unclear on whether this includes everything you can fit in one box - that would be my guess, but you will want to clarify it before ordering.

My biggest concern with using a scanning service is that these are irreplaceable photos and videos.   If they are lost, there is no way to ever get them back.

To reduce this fear as much as possible, YesVideo has just one delivery service handle the shipments.   You send your box(es) via UPS.   Once you print out your shipping label, just take it, along with your box of videos and/or photos, to any UPS Store.   They scan in the barcode and track the delivery.

In 3 to 4-weeks, YesVideo will send you back a USB with your digitized files.
